Ko Wai Mātou - Who We Are

ADVANCE AQUAE EXTRACTION stands as Aotearoa New Zealand's dedicated partner in protecting our precious wai (water). From the glacial-fed rivers of the Southern Alps to the coastal estuaries nurturing our marine life, we provide cutting-edge environmental solutions that address the unique water and wastewater challenges facing Kiwi communities, councils, and industries nationwide.

Our mission is simple yet vital: to safeguard the health of New Zealand's freshwater and marine ecosystems through innovative detection, monitoring, and remediation technologies. Whether it's detecting agricultural runoff in Canterbury's waterways, monitoring PFAS contamination in urban wastewater systems, or identifying microplastics threatening our precious marine sanctuaries, we deliver solutions that matter to everyday Kiwis.

  • Advanced detection systems for NZ-specific contaminants: nitrates, phosphates, dairy effluent, PFAS, and microplastics
  • Real-time water quality monitoring for councils, marae, and environmental groups
  • Mobile laboratory solutions reaching remote communities across both islands
  • Genomic tools for tracking waterborne pathogens and invasive aquatic species
  • Locally-supported technology with Kiwi service teams and regional workshops

Addressing Aotearoa's Water Challenges

New Zealand faces critical water quality issues that demand immediate attention and innovative solutions. Agricultural intensification has led to elevated nitrogen and phosphorus levels in our rivers and lakes. Urban expansion brings emerging contaminants like PFAS into our drinking water and wastewater treatment systems. Climate change threatens both water security and the delicate balance of our aquatic ecosystems.

We're here to help Kiwis tackle these challenges head-on. Our equipment enables councils to meet stricter water quality standards, helps dairy and agricultural operations monitor their environmental impact, supports iwi in fulfilling their role as kaitiaki (guardians) of waterways, and provides researchers with the tools to understand and protect our unique freshwater biodiversity. From Northland to Southland, we're committed to making water testing accessible, affordable, and actionable for all New Zealanders.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi Partnership: Working hand-in-hand with iwi and hapū throughout Aotearoa, we honor Te Tiriti o Waitangi and recognize that tangata whenua have been kaitiaki of our waterways for generations. Our approach integrates mātauranga Māori (traditional Māori knowledge) with modern science to create culturally-grounded water monitoring solutions.

From co-designing sampling protocols that respect mahinga kai (traditional food gathering areas) to developing community-accessible data platforms that empower local decision-making, we ensure that Māori communities have the tools and knowledge to protect wai as the taonga (treasure) it truly is. Every project begins with genuine consultation, respects tikanga (protocols), and aims to strengthen rangatiratanga (self-determination) over local water resources.
